The 3 Best Honda Family Vehicles

June 9th, 2016 by

Twenty-five years ago, you’d find it more than difficult to find a family car that wasn’t a boxy, ugly minivan. Thankfully, times have changed, especially at Honda. With several spacious, convenient, and accommodating models to choose from, Honda makes the search for a family car easier and way more fun. If you’re in the market for a new family wagon, check out some of these exemplary models from Honda.

1. Odyssey

Let’s start your search with the most obvious choice: the Honda Odyssey minivan. Even though it’s technically a minivan, you won’t feel like you’re driving one, especially with a 248-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 under the hood. This engine also contains a cylinder deactivation component, which limits gas guzzling and provides up to 28 miles per gallon (mpg) on the highway.

If you have some rowdy children, you’ll love the Rear Entertainment System with display screens and wireless headsets. Several trims also offer the now-famous HondaVac, which is a built-in vacuum ready to suck up all those crumbs from the drive to school or dirt after a baseball game. Inside, the Odyssey seats up to eight passengers comfortably or provides a whopping 148.5 cubic feet of cargo space. To top it off, the Odyssey received a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

2. HR-V

If you’re just starting a family or just have two young kids, you probably don’t need the space afforded by the Odyssey. Instead, you need the HR-V, which is a cute, yet versatile crossover. Using a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and a 1.8-liter, four-cylinder engine, the HR-V gets you to your destination with remarkable fuel economy of 35 mpg on the highway and 28 mpg in the city. This crossover also gets a five-star safety rating from the NHTSA, thanks to active safety features like lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring. Although it looks small on the outside, thanks to folding second-row seats, the HR-V hauls up to 58.8 cubic feet of cargo. When you add up all the perks, the HR-V is proof that good things come in small packages.

3. Pilot

As Honda’s largest SUV, the Pilot gives families more space for whatever they need, as well as providing a plethora of entertainment features to please everyone. The cabin is roomy and was one of the predecessors of an available third-row seat, allowing it to haul eight passengers. If you need storage space, fold all the seats down to reveal nearly 84 cubic feet of cargo space. In the back, it also has underfloor compartments to hide valuables or other gear. Like the other family vehicles on this list, the Pilot also obtains a five-star safety mark from the NHTSA. With a 3.5-liter V6, this SUV cooks on the open road, yet is still easy on the pocketbook with 28 mpg on the highway and 19 mpg in the city. Overall, the Pilot is the mid-sized option for the family.

Safety matters most, and the 2016 CR-V, Accord, Fit, Odyssey, HR-V and Pilot earned top marks with a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)1.

Regardless of which Honda you choose for your next family car, one thing’s for sure. You’ll never have to worry that you made the wrong choice.
