3 Honda Element Alternatives

2011 Honda Element

Since the discontinuation of the Honda Element in 2011, some have been searching for an alternative to the unique Honda vehicle. The good news is that Honda offers three practical alternatives to the Element that combine the modern features of a new Honda model with the utility of the discontinued vehicle.

The 2018 Honda CR-V, 2019 Honda HR-V, and 2019 Honda Fit each offer great versatility, just like the Element. Between the CR-V’s cavernous cargo area and the Fit’s flexible seating configuration, Honda’s current lineup has a lot to offer for those interested in a vehicle similar to the Honda Element.

Honda CR-V

One of the most-loved features of the Honda Element was its great cargo room. The CR-V offers even more room for drivers to haul all sorts of cargo. With the rear seats in their standard position, the 2018 CR-V offers 39.2 cubic feet of cargo volume, compared to 25.1 cubic feet in the Element. With the rear seats folded down, the CR-V provides 75.8 cubic feet of cargo volume, compared to the Element’s 74.6 cubic feet.

Honda HR-V

For a modern-day crossover that retains the Honda Element’s unique compact style, buyers should check out the Honda HR-V. The HR-V’s exterior dimensions are very similar to those of the Element, while offering styling that’s more in line with the current Honda family. The recently-announced 2019 HR-V features a revised grille with a wider, more aggressive look and Honda’s signature “flying wing” grille accent. On the rear, smoked turn signal lenses and chrome accents give the 2019 HR-V an upscale appearance.

Honda Fit

Similar to the Honda Element’s highly flexible seating system, the Fit’s Magic Seat offers a wide range of configurability. In the Element, the seats could be folded completely flat so that drivers could stretch out and relax when the car was parked. In the Fit, Refresh Mode provides similar lounge seating with the front seats folded back and head restraints removed1. In addition, the Magic Seat gives 2019 Fit drivers three configurations for cargo. Utility Mode gives the Fit 52.7 cubic feet of maximum cargo space with the Magic Seat folded down2. Long Mode allows the Fit to haul cargo up to 7 feet, 9 inches long with the right rear seat and front passenger seat folded down2. Finally, Tall Mode offers a cargo area nearly four feet tall with the Magic Seat folded up2.
