4 Hondas With a Five-Star Rating from the NHTSA
One of the most positive aspects of the Honda Motor Company is its commitment to safety. However, increased safety measures aren’t the result of a “good enough” methodology. Instead, it requires constant research and development of new technologies to make new cars safer than previous models. That’s why Honda has several current models with a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Here are a few of the best.
1. CR-V
If you’re in the market for a compact SUV, there’s no better choice than the Honda CR-V. After the CR-V fell short of the NHTSA’s five-star mark in 2015, Honda added numerous features that enabled it to take the top prize in 2016. The foremost reasons for the CR-V’s crash test success stems from inclusion of an advanced body structure, which makes it more resilient in crashes. In addition, the CR-V has a rearview camera, forward collision warning, and lane departure system which allowed it to earn five stars for preventative measures. In the compact SUV class, no other competitor outperforms the CR-V in terms of safety.
2. Pilot
The Pilot, one of Honda’s entries into the crowded crossover market, also earned a five-star crash test rating from the NHTSA, although individual tests varied. For the front crash and rollover tests, the Pilot earned four out of five stars. However, it did earn five stars for side crash tests. The NHSTA cited standard features like anti-lock brakes with brake assist, electronic stability control, and six air bags as some of the reasons for superior results. Upper trim levels have Honda Safety Sense as an option, which adds forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and a road departure mitigation system.
3. Accord Sedan
For drivers looking for a safe four-door sedan at a great price, the Accord is an awesome selection. With a five-star rating in both the side crash and rollover tests, as well as a four-star rating in front crash tests, the Accord earned the top overall rating from the NHSTA. The standard safety amenities on the Accord include traction control, a multi-angle rearview camera, and a tire pressure monitoring system. If you opt for the top trim level, you get several active safety features like lane keeping assist, collision mitigation braking, and adaptive cruise control.
4. Fit
Despite its small stature, the Fit is one of the safest cars on the road. This compact hatchback received a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA, with five stars in the front and side crash tests. Rollover crashes earned only a four-star mark. Most notably, the Fit uses ACE body structure technology to evenly distribute the force across the body of the vehicle. Standard specs also include vehicle stability control, traction control, daytime running lights, and a multi-view rearview camera.
With so many amazingly safe Honda vehicles, you simply can’t go wrong, no matter which one you choose. Whether it’s preventing an accident or protecting you when the worst happens, Hondas are the best on the road.
Safety matters most, and the 2016 CR-V, Accord, Fit, Odyssey, HR-V and Pilot earned top marks with a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Government 5-Star Safety Ratings are part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s New Car Assessment Program (www.safercar.gov). Model tested with standard side airbags (SAB).
