5 Gasoline-Alternative Hondas
As you’re well aware, greenhouse gases and oil as an unsustainable resource are leading automakers to take the next step towards clean-fueled cars. Honda just happens to lead the pack when it comes to alternative fuel sources for their vehicles. If you’re looking to lower your carbon emissions or just want to have some pride knowing you’re reducing your impact on the earth, check out a few of these gasoline-alternative Hondas.
Honda Civic Natural Gas
First built in 2015, the Honda Civic Natural Gas is exclusively powered by clean-burning natural gas. Unlike many other competitors that use a natural gas/traditional gasoline hybrid, this one relies solely on natural gas, and as a result, puts out almost zero emissions. In fact, when the Civic underwent tests from the EPA, it gained notoriety as the cleanest car ever tested by the agency.
Honda Fit EV
If you’re looking for a full-fledged electric car, give the Honda Fit EV a try. Although Honda discontinued this model after the 2014 edition, there are still plenty of great used models available. This plug-in vehicle relies on a synchronous permanent magnet electric motor, and when coupled with a lithium-ion battery, it gives you up to 118 equivalent mpg and up to 82 miles on a single charge.
Honda Clarity FCX
Another amazing addition to the world of alternative-fuel cars is the Clarity FCX. This vehicle uses only hydrogen to power itself, and what’s more astounding is that the only emission is water. With its hydrogen gas fuel cell, the Clarity FCX goes up to 240 miles before refueling, which is equivalent to 60 mpg. In addition, the Clarity still gets 134 horsepower and 189 pound-feet of torque.
Honda Accord Hybrid
Unlike the other cars on this list, the Accord Hybrid still needs a bit of gas to power its engine, yet it goes a longer distance than any other car in its class. As a mid-sized sedan, the Accord Hybrid outclasses the competition with up to 50 mpg city and 45 mpg highway. Using a lithium-ion battery, a synchronous permanent magnet electric motor, and a 2.0-liter, inline four-cylinder engine, the Accord Hybrid also has a surprising amount of power, giving you 166 horsepower with the electric motor and 144 horsepower when it switches to the gasoline engine.
Regardless of which one of the Honda cars suits you, you’ll find yourself in ecstasy over the overall performance and driving experience. It’s not every day you get to save the world, but once you’re in one of these vehicles, you’re one step closer.
