5 Great Parks and Playgrounds for Families in Burien

As the spring weather shows its face and offers glimpses of the summer sunshine, everyone is excited to get outdoors — especially the kids who have been cooped up inside. Whether you have a favorite park to take your children to, or you randomly choose where to go from day-to-day, there are several good parks in the area that you should check out. If you are not sure where to start, try these five great parks and playground for families in Burien.

Dottie Harper Park

Behind the Burien Community Center, you will find the cute little Dottie Harper Park. This park was recently updated and features a modern playground, with a play structure, swing set, omni spinner, benches, and picnic table. It has plenty of things for your children to climb on and offers large areas in which to run and play. Plus, don’t forget to check out the movies that play in the park during the summer months.

Eagle Landing Park

Situated in a quiet residential area off of SW 149th Street is Eagle Landing Park, a great six-acre space that offers people a wonderful opportunity to get out and enjoy nature. In fact, many visitors have reported seeing woodpeckers, raccoons, foxes, and otters. With plenty of forest area, a walking trail, and lots of wildlife and plants and trees, you are sure to enjoy the afternoon and the feeling that you are out of the city.

Seahurst Park

Along the shores of the Puget Sound is Seahurst Park. This beautiful park features sandy beaches with a marine reserve. During a visit here you will see rocks covered in barnacle and seaweed and the occasional starfish, as well as clams, crabs, and sand dollars. Outside of the beach area there is a walking trail and a great abundance of trees surrounding the area. Visit this park for the afternoon, or make a day of it and bring a picnic — either way, it is worth a visit.

Chelsea Park

Another park with a lovely playground for your children to play in is Chelsea Park. This park is on SW 136th Street and offers visitors a newer playground. There are swings, including ones for infants, and a nice little play structure. Parents can sit on the benches and watch their children play, or take advantage of the large grassy area to run around with them. Plus there is plenty of parking on the street.

Lake Burien School Memorial Park

If you are looking for a park in Burien that has tennis courts, and other recreational areas, check out Lake Burien School Memorial Park. You can enjoy a tennis match, walk on the trails, and play with your children on the playground. During the summer months, you get the added fun of attending summer concerts.
