Burien’s Music in the Park

Looking for something fun to do on Thursday nights in Burien this summer? Look no further than the 2018 edition of Music in the Park at Lake Burien School Memorial Park. Thursdays from July 12-August 16, local community members can join together to experience live music performances from 6:30-8 PM. The free annual event is put on by the City of Burien Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services department.

Music in the Park is a great way to gather with friends and family on a warm summer evening. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to enjoy live music from a wide variety of genres, all without spending money on tickets or travelling far from home. Attendees are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to watch the performances. Guests can bring along a picnic dinner, or enjoy something from Jimmy V’s food truck, which serves up American, Italian, and Italian Filipino fusion dishes.

2018 Music in the Park Lineup

This year’s lineup is jam-packed with great entertainment. On July 12, Norman Baker & the Backroads will kick off the festivities with their lumber rock and Americana. On July 19, the Gothard Sisters will perform Celtic folk. On July 26, Alma y Azucar will offer diverse Latin rhythms. August 2 will bring Pearl Django with their gypsy jazz and new metropolitan swing. On August 9, Billy Brandt with the Thing & the Stuff Band will perfom jazz and bluesy soul. Finally, on August 16, Show Brazil will bring a traditional Brazilian performance to Lake Burien School Memorial Park.

Past Performances at Music in the Park

Music in the Park’s annual Thursday night shows have become a great tradition in the Burien community. In 2017, performances included Mambo Cadillac, Missy G Country Band, 58th Street Big Band, Bootleg Sunshine, LeRoy Bell & His Only Friends, and Fun Addicts. 2016’s lineup included Pearl Django, Seattle Women’s Steel Pan Project, The Olson Bros Band, Chris Anderson, Orchestra Zarabanda, and Kim Archer Band. These are just a selection of the wide-ranging performances that have made Music in the Park the tradition that it is.

Lake Burien School Memorial Park

The 4.6-acre park is located in western Burien. A large lawn area makes it the perfect venue for Music in the Park. The park also provides tennis courts, a walking trail, and a playground for visitors to enjoy. The park is valued in the local area for its large open space and well-maintained grounds. The park is named after the historic Lake Burien Elementary School that was formerly situated on the site.
