Burien Parks to Visit this Summer
As the weather warms up during June and into the summer months, finding ways to cool off can be a challenge. Many people want to visit local water parks or pools, but can’t find a way to fit such visits into their budgets or schedules. The good news is that the city of Burien offers two great parks with free access to water features suitable for swimming in and enjoying. Families in the Burien area don’t have to travel far from home or spend a lot of money to get a break from the heat. The two Burien parks are Seahurst Park, offering a saltwater beach, and Town Square Park, featuring a spray fountain plaza.
Seahurst Park is situated on Puget Sound with a beach along the shoreline. The cool saltwater is especially refreshing on hot days. Described as “the jewel of Burien’s park system” by the city, the large park also features a playground, trails, and areas that can be reserved for picnics and events. Seahurst Park also offers other natural attractions, such as wooded areas, streams, wetlands, and views of the Olympic Mountains on clear days. Many of the park’s facilities and natural elements were refurbished and enhanced during a recent restoration project. The project removed a seawall, provided better access to the beach, and reversed environmental degradation at the park. Seahurst Park is a great nearby option for enjoying summer weather.
Seahurst Park is open from 8AM-6PM daily, and is located at 1600 SW Seahurst Park Rd, Burien, WA 98166. The popular park has a large parking lot to accommodate visitors during the busier months.
Town Square Park
Town Square Park is located in the center of Olde Burien, adjacent to the Burien Library and City Hall complex. The park is frequently used for local events, such as the Burien Farmers Market, Independence Day Parade, and Awesome Kids Day. Town Square Park has become a gathering place for the community of Burien. There’s a myriad of different activities to do in a relatively small area, with a seating terrace, sprawling lawns, pathways traversing the park, and a refreshing spray fountain plaza, which is a fun way for kids to keep cool during the summer. The fountains were opened in 2014, and feature an outline of Puget Sound. A 2017 restoration replaced portions of the plumbing system, water filtration system, and landscaping.
Town Square Park is located at 400 SW 152nd St, Burien, WA 98166, and the spray fountains operate from May through October from 9AM-9PM. There is usually ample parking on surrounding side streets.
Residents of Burien and the surrounding area can save time and money this summer by taking advantage of the water features in their own backyards. Not only will they find a fun way to keep cool, but they will discover everything that the Burien parks system has to offer at Seahurst Park and Town Square Park.
