type r 2While the brand may be known primarily for its reliability and impressive fuel mileage, Honda is no stranger to performance. At the Geneva Motor Show, the brand is showcasing this in a big way by giving us the first real look at the Civic Type R. There has been no shortage of press on this high performance Civic, and the car has even been seen in concept form a few times. But not until right now at Geneva have we had the chance to view the vehicle in all its glory.

Needless to say,the Civic Type R didn’t let down the many fans that were eagerly awaiting its arrival. There is no shortage of performance being teased for the new Civic Type R. In fact, it is being billed as the fastest front-wheel-drive hatch ever to be built. If that isn’t saying something, then nothing is.

As for the specifics, the Civic Type R will have performance output of 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. This all comes from a 2.0-liter VTEC turbo four-cylinder. This engine, obviously, is also the most powerful to ever come out of the Honda camp.

Some other goodies to keep the interest high in the new Civic Type R included the 19-inch wheels, Brembo brakes, six-speed manual transmission and much more. Basically, the car is an absolute dream for the tuner crowd, as well as general sports car enthusiasts.

The only unfortunate part of the new Civic Type R is that there are apparently no plans to bring it to the states – not yet at least. If we have any say here at Honda of Burien, we say bring it one. We’re more than ready to see the Civic Type R right here on our lot.
