The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety sets the standard for vehicle safety testing, and each year, they release their top picks. This year, Honda received five awards, some of which earned the distinction of Top Safety Pick +. Honda’s commitment to safety and innovation is what helped earn so many awards, with recent additions like Honda Sensing to nearly every model.

Which Honda Models Earned Top Safety Awards?

The 2023 model year saw several top-notch releases from Honda, including two Top Safety Pick and three Top Safety Pick + award winners. In order to meet the criteria, each vehicle must pass or exceed the standards set by IIHS in categories like collision testing and crash prevention. Both the 2023 Civic Hatchback and Civic Sedan received Good ratings in each category to earn the distinction of Top Safety Pick. Those that were awarded Top Safety Pick + are judged more rigorously in even more categories, including the 2023 CR-V, HR-V, and Odyssey, and must earn an advanced or superior rating in those categories.

Honda’s commitment to “Safety for Everyone” is what causes them to produce so many award-winning vehicles. By producing their own state-of-the-art crash test facilities, the brand is able to put each vehicle through the ringer in order to release models up to their high standards. The goal is zero collision fatalities involving Honda vehicles by 2050 – a worldwide goal that can be achieved by constant and thorough improvements in engineering and implementation of technology.

It’s no coincidence that each award-winning car includes Honda Sensing, a suite of driver assist technology and safety features. With more distractions and a fast-paced world, avoiding collisions in the first place is key to improving the safety of drivers and passengers. Of course, sometimes collisions will still happen, and that’s why each Honda is built with Advanced Capability Engineering body structures that efficiently absorb impact to reduce the chances of injury. But for now, Honda Sensing is included to lessen the impact with features like a Collision Mitigation Braking System, Adaptive Cruise Control, and even more features in the concept stage.
