The Honda CR-V Best Crossover for Families
The Honda CR-V Best Crossover for Families
The Honda CR-V has long been the standard for comfort and safety. It was first introduced in 1997 where it challenged the standards of quality and comfort in the SUV world. Honda’s primary goal with the CR-V was to deliver an affordable family vehicle that offered all the options, accessories and comfort of a luxury SUV. The CR-V has since become one of America’s favorite crossovers and was recently named US News and World Reports’ best-selling compact SUV for families.
Honda CR-V Accolades
The Honda CR-V claimed several awards in 2017:
- KBB.com 10 Most Awarded Cars of 2017
- 2017 KBB.com Best Family Cars
- 2017 U.S. News Best Cars for the Money
- 2017 Car and Driver‘s 10Best Trucks and SUV’s
The Honda CR-V is really hitting on all cylinders this year. US News and World Report critics gave it an overall rating of 9.1 out of 10. Honda has sold nearly 4 million CR-V’s since its introduction in 1997. The comfort and features of this affordable SUV has long kept it in the top of its class.
Engineered for Reliability and Performance
The Honda CR-V comes standard with All-Wheel drive. This 5-passenger, 4-door hatchback crossover is powered by a turbo charged and intercooled DOHC 16 valve inline-4 in EX, EX-L and Touring body styles. The engine block and head are all aluminum. This gives the CR-V a lighter weight engine, which leads to better handling and improved fuel efficiency.
The 1.5-litre turbo found in the Honda CR-V provides 190 horse power and 179 lb-ft of torque. While the Honda CR-V shares a similar engine as the Honda Civic, The Honda CR-V has a slightly lower compression ratio and slightly higher boost pressure. This allows it to achieve about 16 more horsepower than the civic.
The Honda CR-V bests its competition with its EPA-rated MPG of 27 city and 33 highway. This well out performs its top competitors the Toyota Rav4 AWD whose EPA-rated MPG was 25 city/28 highway, and the Ford Escape at only 20 city/ 27 highway. That is nearly 5 extra miles for every gallon of gas you put in the Honda CR-V.
Affordable Quality and Luxury
The 2017 Honda CR-V crossover is extremely affordable when you start comparing all the luxury options. First and foremost is the quality of the interior. Unlike its competition that uses hard plastics and low quality accents, the Honda CR-V’s spacious interior is designed around user experience, comfort, and luxury. It boasts the roomiest CR-V cabin yet with top of its class interior space, and best-in-class leg room. Everything on the interior is upscaled for comfort. Premium wood panel accents, and leather seats are also available in EX-L and Touring models to really complete the luxury experience without the luxury cost.
Luxury and affordability come together in the Honda CR-V, but safety was still one of the key features when conceptualizing the user experience. The safety features included in the Honda CR-V are one of the main reasons it was voted Best New Car for Teens. Inexperienced drivers need all the help they can get. The Honda CR-V comes standard with rearview camera. Upper trims offer collision warning with automatic emergency breaking, and a Driver Attention Monitor option that is designed to alert you if you become distracted from the road.
Increased Passenger and Cargo Space
The 60/40 split rear seat design offers 105.9 cubic feet of passenger cabin volume. The idea behind the CR-V has always been comfort. The 2018 Honda CR-V added an additional 2-inches of leg room for passengers, and increased toe room under the front-seats. When cargo capacity is needed the rear seats can be folded down into a flat cargo deck. Automatic folding seatbacks allow you to convert between passenger mode and cargo mode with a single pull of a lever.
