What is the Honda Magic Seat?

If you’ve researched the Honda Fit at all, then you’ve probably heard about how much room it has for a small car. In fact, this is something that we’ve talked about at great length in the past. But do you know why the Fit can so easily conform to so many different passenger and cargo situations? The answer, very simply, is the Honda Magic Seat. The designers of the Fit went to great lengths to develop a seat that can adjust to so many different modes. We realize this doesn’t answer all of your questions just yet. So, what is the Honda Magic Seat? Let’s take a closer look.

The Magic Seat in the Honda Fit is essentially the rear seat of the vehicle. In its simplest form, the Magic Seat fits in the vehicle like a normal seat, and can sit back seat passengers. But if cargo space is needed, the “magic” quickly comes into play. First, the bottom of the seat can quickly flip up to allow items like a bicycle to fit on the rear floor. And of course, if large items are entering into the back of the vehicle, the seat can fold completely flat to the floor, opening up as much as 52.7 cubic feet of cargo space. If needed, only one of the sides of the 60/40 split-folding seat can fold down. This, combined with the removable head rest on the front seat, can create room for one long item.

Beyond just cargo capacity, the Magic Seat can also serve a purpose for those that need a break. The front seat can fold completely backward into the rear magic seat, creating a comfortable space to recharge. This is known as “Refresh Mode,” and it can come in very handy on the long road trips.
