On the Road with the 2024 Honda PrologueThough it offers EVs in other regions, Honda is gearing up to release its first electric model in the U.S., the Prologue. The five-seat SUV is scheduled for the 2024 model year and will arrive close to the time Acura releases its related EV, the ZDX. Honda partnered with General Motors to develop the Prologue, and it shares its underlying architecture with several GM models, including the Chevrolet Equinox EV and GMC Hummer EV.

Interior of the New Honda PrologueWhere does Prologue fit in the Honda lineup?

In terms of size, the Prologue is around eight inches longer and five inches wider than a CR-V and has the longest wheelbase in its class, at 121.8 inches. Honda promises strong performance from the Prologue’s electric powertrain, including 288 horsepower and 333 pounds of torque in the dual-motor configuration. A less powerful, less expensive two-wheel variant will also be available.

Prologue can charge at up to 155 kW, letting it recharge its 85-kWh battery with about 65 miles of range in ten minutes. Buyers will have a choice of charging programs, including credit toward a home charger and public charging incentives.

Interior View of the New Honda PrologueThe Prologue comes standard with an 11-inch digital gauge cluster and an 11.3-inch touchscreen running wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The top Elite trim adds a large head-up display, and the top two trims get a Bose premium audio system with a subwoofer and rear tweeters. Honda includes two USB-C ports for front passengers and two USB-A ports for the back seat. Google built-in comes standard, bringing maps, voice assistance, and Google Play features.

Honda hasn’t detailed safety equipment yet, but expect a full suite of advanced driver assistance features, including blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, forward collision warnings, automatic emergency braking, lane departure alerts, and more. The Prologue is too new to have crash-test data available, but it will likely be a strong performer when the time comes.

2024 Honda PrologueThough it’s Honda’s first mass-market EV here, it won’t be the last. The Prologue will precede other partner-driven EVs from the Japanese automaker, including a unique model from the automaker’s surprising partnership with Sony. Initial deliveries are scheduled to start in early 2024, and the Prologue will land with a starting price in the high-$40,000 range.
