Honda shows off automated driving technology

No matter your feelings on driverless vehicles, the fact is, they are coming. The hope for the future is that further advances in vehicle automation will make driving a much safer activity. Being that Honda is at the forefront of vehicle technology, it isn’t surprising that the company has been investing resources in automated driving technology. And the world has now seen what Honda has been cooking up, following a recent demonstration at the 2014 ITS World Congress in Detroit.

Honda showed off its automated driving technology, which is at a very advanced level right now. Some of the specifics that the technology was able to demonstrate included automate freeway merging, exiting and lane changing. And the most impressive part might have been that these demonstrations didn’t take place on a Honda test track, but on Detroit freeways. The car was able to recognize where it was and complete the tasks on “live” freeways.

Honda is very involved in its “Safety for Everyone” plan, which includes the hopes for a collision-free society in the future. While it would be difficult to imagine a world where zero vehicle collisions occur, any reduction in accidents would lead to lives being saved – something everyone can appreciate.

Not everyone is on board with driverless vehicle technology yet, but we are confident people will come around when the full benefits are explained.
