Acura Vehicle Being Built in Ohio

While we’re always excited to talk about awards that Honda vehicles receive, we’re typically speaking about Kelley Blue Book or Car & Driver recognitions. Today we’re going to be talking about something a little different, but no less exciting in our opinion. Each year since its inception, Cars.com has researched and put together its American-Made Index, which is a way for consumers to see which vehicles are literally the most American. Read on below to hear about the methodology behind this index and to see which Honda vehicles made it in for 2023.

American-Made Index Methodology

When determining which vehicles are the most American, Cars.com takes five different aspects into account. These factors include the location where final assembly is completed, the percentage of parts that are from the U.S. and Canada, the country of origin for all available engines as well as transmissions and finally the number of U.S. manufacturing employees relative to the automaker’s footprint.

Five in Top 10

Honda Vehicle Being Built in AlabamaLet’s first take a look at the top ten, which is what a lot of people immediately look to when they’re concerned with finding out just how American a vehicle is. With the first four slots dedicated to the 100% made-in-America Tesla models, we’re excited to say that the fifth-place spot goes to the Honda Passport, which is made in Alabama. The Honda Odyssey and Ridgeline are also made in Alabama and claim the seventh- and ninth-place spots as well. The other two Honda vehicles in the top ten actually belong to the Acura brand, as the Ohio-built MDX and RDX take eighth and 10th place respectively.

Additional Four in Top 15

If you expand the list by five places to take the top 15 into account, four out of five of the additional models also belong to the Honda Motor Company. 11th place is claimed by the Honda Accord, 13th by the Acura Integra, 14th by the Acura TLX and 15th by the Honda Pilot.

On top of the individual models in the top 10 and top 15, we’re pretty excited to say that as a whole Honda Motor Co. Ltd. is the third most American company as a whole. As mentioned, Tesla Inc. is 100% American, followed by Ford Motor Co. at 77.5% and then Honda with 73.1%. We’re pretty proud of that fact!
