Honda Sensing Lineup of Vehicles

If you’ve ever done any research on a Honda vehicle, at least in the past several years, then there’s a good chance you’ve heard of Honda Sensing. Like so many other automakers around the industry, Honda offers a suite of safety technologies as a standard feature in all of its vehicles. That suite is Honda Sensing, an industry leader when it comes to advanced driver-assistive safety technology. We thought we’d give you the rundown on the many great technologies included in the suite, so check out the below to read short blurbs about what each one is.

Collision Mitigation Braking System

This system will alert the driver in any event that a potential collision is detected. It can then take control and automatically apply pressure to the brakes if you don’t react quickly enough in order to reduce the potential severity of a crash. Forward Collision Warning is a technology that has been integrated into CMBS, which makes the system capable of detecting vehicles and pedestrians in front of you.

Road Departure Mitigation System

Rather than paying attention to other vehicles or pedestrians, this system pays attention to the road itself, making sure that you don’t go off the road by identifying both solid and dashed painted lines plus additional markers. Lane Departure Warning is integrated into this technology on some vehicles, which will send a warning if the system detects you departing your lane.

Adaptive Cruise Control

ACC is the evolution of classic cruise control. Historically, this technology has been a huge convenience in driving, allowing you to set your speed and not have to constantly keep your foot on the pedal. This was a huge boon for long-distance trips with a lot of highway driving, but if you suddenly come up to a vehicle in front of you going a slower speed it can be dangerous, and force you to put your foot back on the pedal.

Adaptive Cruise Control lets you not only set your desired speed but also a desired distance. It then adapts to the speed of vehicles in front of you and slows down to keep the set distance. Low-Speed Follow is an additional technology sometimes found with ACC, which adds several abilities to the system while driving at lower speeds, such as stopping automatically and remaining stationary when the vehicle in front of you does so.

Lane Keeping Assist System

The LKAS reduces stress while driving by delivering steering assistance to help you stay in the middle of the driving lane on long trips, particularly between the speeds of 45 to 90 miles per hour. Traffic Jam Assist is sometimes integrated into the system, which does the same but at speeds below 45 mph, thus enabling the system to provide assistance during traffic jams.

Traffic Sign Recognition

Finally, one of the newest technologies to be found in the Honda Sensing safety suite, Traffic Sign Recognition makes sure you are staying on top of road signs by showing you information such as speed limits and more.
